BAM commissioned the outdoor mural as part of the transformation of this previously abandoned lot into the Con Edison Bike Lot at 31 Lafayette Avenue, located across from its Peter J Sharpe Building. The KAWS mural Features his best-known characters with X-ed out eyes. In front of the mural is a bike rack designed by David Byrne.

KAWS, (b. 1974, Jersey City) AKA Brian Donnelly, currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He is a graffiti artist, painter, illustrator, sculptor, product designer and toymaker. In addition to designing everything from album covers to Nike sneakers, KAWS shows his work in galleries and museums. These include the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, Tx, the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, China, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, High Museum of Art, the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Other international galleries include Galerie Perrotin and Honor Fraser Gallery. His work has been seen in Paris, London, Berlin, and Tokyo.
